The Sunpath Pavilion

The Sunpath Pavilion is a small playground for relaxation that measures time and creates a dynamic effect of sunlight by tuning color filters and edges to the angles of sunlight throughout the day.

Analemma

An analemma is a loop representing the position of the Sun in the sky, observed from a fixed location at the same clock time throughout a year
In the design, it becomes a sundial of a year, which can measure the time of the day by sunlight that goes through a color filter.

The solar altitude

Altitude means the angle or height of something above a reference level.
The solar altitude at noon on the vernal equinox (March 21) is approximately 49 degrees.

Precedent

Pantheon
The light goes through the oculus, precisely sweeps across the doorway, falls into a specific niche, and illuminates the entrance around the Vernal Equinox. It became a colossal solar clock; the architecture uses the sunpath as a narrative of the place.
Gilardi House
Color becomes the second layer of the structure, and it carries the emotions and narrative of the architecture. It created depth, boundary, spatial sequence, and emotions. It is lively and pointed forward.

Site Analysis

As the sunlight is a part of the design, the complete sunpath throughout the year is inseparable.

Audience/Interior Space

Children will have a different experience with lights, and they can roughly understand the sun’s path and the time of day, making it both playful and educational. It can be a cooling area for joggers and people who want to take a break in the park. The extreme use of natural light works well with photographers. Children, Joggers, Photographers, people resting and relaxing, students.

Material Use

Coloured Acrylic Rod

High Light Transmission: Coloured cellophane sheets have a high light transmittance, allowing light to pass through and enter the material. Material Stability: Coloured cellophane sheets often exhibit good UV resistance and weathering durability, maintaining light transmission properties over time, even under varying environmental conditions.

Lightweight and Easy Installation

High Safety: Made from quality PVC or acrylic materials, they are waterproof, corrosion-resistant, and shatterproof, reducing the risk associated with glass mirrors.Cost-Effective: Generally more affordable than traditional mirrors, making them suitable for budget-conscious users.
