The Mayura Chair

The Mayura chair is a lounging chair that is designed for compact spaces to be transformative and flat package able, a transformative effect is created using the diagonal slotting technique, when pulled apart the chair opens up  into a seat and when pushed inwards can be flat packed and stored away.

Intention behind the form of the chair

The intention behind the form of the shapes used was to create seat depth that is ergonomically comfortable to lounge in. The blue lines indicate how the form makes angular curves to incorporate a comfortable lounging position.

Design process and experimentations

A diagonal slotting technique was used to develop the mechanism of this. This kind of manipulation allows the cardboard pieces to change positions and allow for movement whilst maintaining a strong structure to withstand forces of tension.
